5 ting å gjøre i Lofoten på høsten

Autumn is a fantastic time of year in Lofoten! The mountain sides are covered in beautiful autumn colours, lamb is in season and with a still warm climate and bright days there are many activities to take part in.

1. Fishing trip

Lofoten is known for its long fishing traditions and the history goes all the way back to the Viking Age when dried fish became Norway’s biggest export. Fishing takes place all year round and in autumn there is particular fishing for pollock, cod, haddock and halibut. Join us on a fishing trip in our traditional fishing boat, Elltor. Our experienced local captain has been a fisherman himself and shares knowledge and exciting stories from the old days in the fishing village. At the same time, you get a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains from the water and maybe you will see the majestic sea eagle or whale on the trip. After the trip, you can deliver the fish to the kitchen and have your home-caught fish served at the Karoline Restaurant.

2. Surfing

Whether you are going to try surfing for the first time or are an experienced surfer, this is a fantastic experience in Lofoten. The best surfing conditions is from September, when the strongest swells come from the Norwegian Sea and make waves. The high season lasts until April, but you can surf in Lofoten all year round. There are several beaches to surf and we can make a recommendation depending on the weather and your experience. The water is cold, but with a winter wetsuit you won’t be cold in the water. The beaches in Lofoten are absolutely fantastic and surrounded by mountains and beautiful nature.

3. Kayaking

Experience Lofoten from the water on a guided kayak tour. Paddle through the water as you look at the spectacular mountains, bustling birdlife and fascinating marine life. In a kayak, you get the opportunity to glide through bays and discover small, hidden beaches. Maybe you meet a seal peeking out of the water on your trip? Our guide shares stories about the area’s past and provides insight into the rich wildlife. You don’t need any previous experience to join and you can borrow all the equipment you need.

4. Lofoten lamb at Restaurant Karoline

At Restaurant Karoline, the focus is on the traditions of Nordic cooking and short-traveled, local ingredients. Autumn is the season for lamb and at Restaurant Karoline you will find it on the menu. The Lofoten lamb has geographical protection and goes up and down the mountain sides to eat during the summer.
